Colchagua Valley Wine Tour: Chile’s Premium Red Wine Country
Travel south of Santiago to Colchagua, home of some of Chile’s most celebrated reds and most spectacular wineries. With your private driver and English-speaking guide, you’ll ride a horse-drawn carriage through the vineyards of Viu Manent, discover the architecture of Lapostolle in Apalta and enjoy lunch with the valley’s wines.
Full day · Private tour · 2 wineries + lunch · Hotel pickup · From USD 295 per person (minimum 2 guests) · We recommend staying one night
Why Visit the Colchagua Valley
Around the town of Santa Cruz, about two and a half hours south of Santiago, Colchagua is Chile’s premium red wine region, known for Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Merlot and even some Malbec. The steep slopes of Apalta produce some of the country’s most acclaimed reds.
Colchagua’s wineries are known worldwide for their architecture and for the most refined wine experiences in the country. Because the drive is longer, we recommend spending at least one night in the valley, ideally at a wine lodge among the vines.
Your Day in Colchagua
Morning: Viu Manent
A winery with a long equestrian tradition and one of the few in Chile that makes Malbec. The visit starts with a carriage ride, pulled by huge horses, through the vineyards and cellars, and ends with a tasting. The winery also has an excellent restaurant.
Midday: Lapostolle, Apalta
An organic winery founded by a French family, with breathtaking architecture set into the hillside of Apalta. You’ll tour its installations, see its meticulous vineyard work and taste extraordinary wines.
Lunch
Lunch with wine at one of the wineries.
The tour takes about seven hours in the valley. From Santiago, add about two and a half hours each way, which is why we recommend staying a night.
The Wineries We Visit
Our classic Colchagua day combines Viu Manent and Lapostolle.
We can also visit Montes, Casa Lapostolle’s Clos Apalta, Neyen, MontGras, Casa Silva, Santa Cruz, Siegel, Laura Hartwig or Las Niñas. On the way from Santiago, we can stop in the Cachapoal Valley at Altaïr, Anakena, Château Los Boldos or VIK.
