Why Visit the Maipo Valley

The Maipo Valley is where Chilean wine began, in the 19th century, when Santiago’s leading families planted French vines on their country estates. Some of those wineries are now national monuments, with colonial houses, old cellars and centenary parks.

Volcanic soils, sunny days and cool air from the Andes make Maipo Chile’s reference for red wine, especially Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère. Alto Maipo, in the foothills around Pirque and Puente Alto, produces some of the country’s finest Cabernet. Less than an hour from the city, it’s the easiest wine day from Santiago.
